The word 'commensurate' means that something is in proportion or of an appropriate size or amount for a certain situation. For example, if a person has a lot of experience and education, their salary should be commensurate with their qualifications. This means that their pay should be appropriate and fair for their level of education and experience. Another example could be that a punishment should be commensurate with the crime. This means that the punishment should be proportional or fitting for the severity of the crime committed. Essentially, 'commensurate' is used to describe something that is in balance or fitting for a specific circumstance.
