Cirrhosis is a medical condition that affects the liver. It happens when the liver becomes damaged over time, usually from long-term alcohol abuse or a virus like hepatitis B or C. When the liver is damaged, scar tissue forms and replaces healthy tissue, making it harder for the liver to function properly. This can lead to a variety of problems, such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), weakness and fatigue, fluid buildup in the abdomen, and even liver failure. It's important to seek medical attention if you have any symptoms of cirrhosis.
