An insulator is a material that stops electricity or heat from flowing through it. It is commonly used to protect people from electric shocks or to keep a house warm by preventing heat from escaping. For example, the walls of a house are often insulated with materials such as foam, fiberglass, or cellulose to keep it warm in winter and cool in summer. A plastic or rubber material is also often used as an insulator for electrical wires to prevent electrocution.
