Hearsay is a term used when someone is repeating something they heard from someone else without any firsthand knowledge of the information. It is often used in legal contexts when someone is trying to prove something based on what they heard from someone else, rather than what they personally witnessed or experienced. For example, if someone says "I heard from a friend of a friend that John stole something," that would be considered hearsay because the person didn't witness John stealing and is only repeating what they heard from someone else.
