In everyday language, extrinsic means something that comes from the outside, and is not a part of something naturally. In certain contexts, like education or psychology, we use extrinsic to describe outside factors that influence someone's behavior or motivation. For example, if a student studies hard because they want to get a good grade, that motivation is extrinsic because it comes from the desire to get something (a good grade) that is outside of themselves. Sometimes, extrinsic influences can be useful, but other times they can distract from our internal motivations and make us feel less fulfilled overall.
