An edict is a formal order or decree issued by someone in authority, like a king or a government. It is usually used to make an important announcement or to give an instruction that must be followed by everyone affected by it. For example, a company CEO might issue an edict to all employees, stating that no one can use personal phones during working hours. In history, kings and queens used to issue edicts to their subjects, making laws or announcing a change in status. In today’s context, we can see the term used in government or corporate environments in announcements or updates on policies or changes in their functioning.
