'Counterproductive' means something that goes against the goal or the purpose that you're trying to achieve. For example, if you're trying to study for an exam and you spend all night watching TV instead, that would be counterproductive because it makes it harder for you to do well on the exam. Another example would be if you tried to clean your room, but ended up making it messier than before because you didn't know how to organize your things properly - that would also be counterproductive. So, the word 'counterproductive' is used when something you do actually makes things worse or goes against what you're trying to accomplish.
