An escarpment is a steep slope or cliff. It is usually found in areas where there are changes in the earth's surface, such as between mountains and valleys, or where there is erosion caused by water or wind. You can use the word escarpment to describe a dramatic landscape, or to talk about the geological features of an area. For example, you could say "the Grand Canyon is an example of a large escarpment" or "the village was nestled at the base of the steep escarpment".
