The word 'majority' is used when we want to talk about more than half of a total group. For example, if there are 10 people in a room and 6 of them are wearing red shirts, we would say that the majority of people in the room are wearing red shirts. Another example is in voting. If there are 100 people voting and 60 of them vote for the same candidate, we would say that the candidate won by a majority.
