Trusteeship refers to a situation where someone (known as the trustee) is given responsibility for managing something on behalf of someone else (known as the beneficiary). For example, parents might create a trust for their children's inheritance, with a trustee named to manage the funds until the children are old enough to receive them. Trusteeship can also refer to situations where a governing body is given responsibility for managing a territory or colony on behalf of a larger entity; for example, the United Nations established a trusteeship over certain former colonies following World War II. In short, trusteeship involves the idea of taking care of something on behalf of another person or group, and making sure that the interests of the beneficiaries are protected.
