A minaret is a tall, thin tower attached to a mosque where Muslims go to pray. It is typically used for the call to prayer, which is broadcast from the top of the tower five times a day. The word "minaret" comes from the Arabic word "manara," which means "lighthouse." Depending on the region, a minaret may be made of stone, brick, or other materials and can be square, circular, or octagonal in shape.
