The word 'overpay' means to pay more money than necessary or expected. You may use this word in situations where you feel you have paid more than the fair cost of a product or service. For example, if you paid $25 for a book that is normally priced at $15, then you can say "I think I overpaid for this book." Another situation where you might use this word is when you are negotiating a salary with an employer and they offer you more money than you were expecting or think you deserve. You can say "I don't want to be overpaid for this job. I just want a fair salary."
