The word 'entrench' is used when something becomes established and difficult to change. It is often used in the context of politics, law or social norms. For example, a law that has been in place for a long time and is difficult to change is said to be entrenched. Similarly, a social norm or tradition that is deeply rooted in society and is hard to change is also said to be entrenched. In other words, when something is so deeply rooted that it cannot easily be changed, it is said to be entrenched.
