The word 'overstay' is used to describe when someone stays somewhere longer than they are allowed or supposed to. For example, if you are only supposed to stay in a hotel for three nights but you stay for four, you have 'overstayed' your welcome. It can also be used to describe when a person stays in a country without the proper visa or permit, which is not allowed by the laws of that country. So, if you were in a different country and you stay there longer than your visa allows, you can be said to have 'overstayed' your visa. It's important to try and follow the rules, otherwise you might get in trouble for 'overstaying'!
