The word 'dowser' refers to a person who finds underground water sources by using a tool called a dowsing rod. This tool is usually made of wood or metal and looks like a Y-shaped stick or two L-shaped rods. The dowser holds the rods loosely while walking over an area where they believe water might be, and the rods supposedly point downwards when they reach a spot where water is present. Dowser is often used in the context of finding water sources for wells, irrigation or other purposes.
