Endogamy is when people marry within their own social, ethnic or religious group. It's often used to describe a practice within certain cultures or religions where it is encouraged or even required that people only marry someone from a similar background, rather than marrying outside of that group. For example, some communities may practice endogamy by only allowing people to marry someone of the same religion, caste, or racial group. It is a way to maintain traditions, cultural practices and social status.
