The expression "answer to" is usually used when talking about a person's authority or position in a company, organization or team. It means that the person has to report to someone or has to be accountable to someone. For example, if you have a boss at work, you might say "I answer to my boss" which means that you have to report to your boss and follow their instructions. Another example could be in sports, where a team captain "answers to" the coach as they are responsible for following the coach's directions.
