"Champing at the bit" is an expression used to describe someone who is very eager to do something or impatiently waiting for something to happen. It comes from the idea of a horse that is so excited to run that it chomps or "champs" on its bit (the metal part in its mouth) to show its eagerness. You can use this expression when talking about someone who is eagerly waiting for something, such as a promotion or a chance to travel, and can't wait for it to happen. For example, "Ever since she was offered the job, she's been champing at the bit to start and show everyone what she can do."
