The expression "grasp the nettle" means to confront a difficult situation or problem with courage and determination. It is usually used when talking about taking action to deal with a challenging or uncomfortable situation, even if it may be painful or unpleasant in the short term. For example, if someone is facing a difficult task at work, they might say, "I know it's hard, but I need to grasp the nettle and get it done." The expression comes from the idea that if you have to handle nettles (a prickly plant) it's better to grab them firmly and quickly rather than hesitating and getting stung repeatedly.
