The expression "have shot your bolt" means that you have exhausted all your resources or used up all your energy trying to do something, and you cannot try any longer because you have nothing left. For example, if you have spent all your money on a project and the project failed, you can say that you have "shot your bolt" and cannot continue because you have no more resources. It can also mean that you have reached your limit or maximum effort and cannot do any more. The phrase is often used in sports, where a player or team may have given their best effort but still lost the game, and can be applied to many different situations in life.
