"Post hoc" is a Latin phrase that means "after the fact". It is often used to describe a situation where someone assumes that just because something happened after another event, the first event caused the second event. For example, if you wear your lucky socks and then win a game, you may believe that the lucky socks caused you to win. However, just because you wore the socks doesn't mean they caused your victory - it could have been a coincidence or something else entirely. So, "post hoc" can be used to remind someone to not jump to conclusions about causation simply based on the order of events.
