The expression "pull the plug on somebody/something" means to suddenly stop or discontinue something, often because it is not working well or it is too expensive. This phrase comes from pulling the plug on an electrical device to turn it off. For example, a company might pull the plug on a project that is not profitable. Or, a family might decide to pull the plug on life support for a loved one who is very ill and unlikely to recover. It can also mean to cut funding to something or to stop supporting something.
