ON/UNDER OATH - Định nghĩa trong Từ điển tiếng Anh
Cách sử dụng
"On/under oath" is an important expression used in legal and official settings. It means that a person is promising to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. When a person takes an oath, they swear to tell the truth and can be punished if they are found to have lied. For example, when someone testifies in court, they may be asked to swear on oath that they will tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. This means that they are agreeing to tell the court only what they know to be true, and not to make anything up or hide any details. If someone is caught lying while under oath, they can be charged with perjury, which is a serious criminal offence. Therefore, the expression "on/under oath" is used to emphasize the importance of telling the truth in situations where lying can have severe consequences.
