The word honorary is used to describe someone who has been given a title or position as an appreciation or recognition of their contribution to a particular field, organization, or cause, without necessarily having the formal qualifications or responsibilities that come with that title. For example, someone can be given an honorary degree for their achievements in a certain field without actually having completed the required coursework. Similarly, someone can be named an honorary member of an organization as a sign of gratitude for their support, even if they are not actively involved in its activities.
