Shilling is an old English word that was used to describe a coin worth one twentieth of a pound. Nowadays, shilling is not used as currency anymore, but it is sometimes used informally to mean a small amount of money or as a way of saying someone is trying to sell something. For example, "I only paid a shilling for this book" or "He's shilling his new invention to anyone who will listen."
