The solstice is a special day when the sun appears to be at its highest or lowest point in the sky. It happens twice a year, once in June and once in December. During the summer solstice, the day is longest, and during the winter solstice, the night is longest. People celebrate the solstice in different ways, such as with bonfires, feasts, or other rituals. Solstice is often used in discussions of astronomy or ethnic traditions.
