Monarchy refers to a form of government that has a king or queen as the ruler. In a monarchy, the person in power, known as the monarch, inherits their position from a family member, usually a parent. Monarchies can either be absolute, where the monarch has complete control, or constitutional, where the monarch's power is limited by laws and a parliament. Some countries like the United Kingdom, Spain, and Japan have monarchies with constitutional limits, while others like Saudi Arabia and Brunei have absolute monarchies. The word monarchy is usually used when discussing systems of government and history, and can be helpful to understand how a country is governed.
