The word 'proximal' is often used in anatomy and biology to describe something that is near or closer to the center of the body or a specific body part. For example, if you break your arm, the part of your arm that is closest to your shoulder would be referred to as proximal. It is the opposite of the word 'distal', which means further away or towards the end of a body part. So, when talking or learning about body parts, their location and position, the word proximal is commonly used to indicate something that is closer to the center or beginning of a body part.
